Marine gastropod mollusc in which the shell
is reduced or absent. Nudibranch sea-slugs
include some very colourful forms, especially
in the tropics. Tentacles on the back help
take in oxygen. They are largely carnivorous,
feeding on hydroids and sponges. Most are
under 2.5 cm/1 in long, and live on the sea
bottom or on vegetation, although some live
in open waters. British species include the
shore-living common grey sea-slug Aeolidia
papillosa up to 8 cm/3 in and the yellow
sea-lemon Archidoris pseudoargus.
